The Hearts and Minds Collection
Brightening lives one Candle at a time.
This heartfelt collection was created by two amazing young men, Jack (14) and Harrison (15), to raise awareness for two charities close to our hearts and minds: PAPYRUS, which is a charity dedicated to the prevention of Young Suicide and the promotion of positive mental health and emotional well-being in young people, and CRY, which raises awareness and helps families affected by cardiac risk in the young.
Meet the creators
Harrison & Jack
We invited Harrison (15) and Jack (14) to Moments HQ for their work experience from a local school.
They were both assigned a project to create charity candles with feelings and emotions and a purpose to raise awareness about cardiac risk in the young and mental health and suicide awareness.
100% of the profits from this Candle will support these charities and those who need it most.

Jack has created his charity candle to support CRY, a charity that raises awareness and helps families affected by cardiac risk in the young.
He read the story about Aaron Dixon, who was a fit and active young man who sadly and unexpectedly died at the young age of 23.
Jack was touched by how much Deborah (Aaron’s mum) continues to raise awareness and funds to screen as many people as possible most weekends to ensure that lives are saved daily.
Jack realised how many young people are affected and undetected by cardiac risk in the young and he felt he would like to create a heartfelt candle that sparks awareness and saves lives.

Harrison has created his charity candle to support the charity PAPYRUS, which is a charity dedicated to the prevention of Young Suicide and the promotion of positive mental health and emotional well-being in young people.
Suicide is the biggest killer of people aged 35 and under in the UK, and Harrison believes that many suicides are preventable by raising awareness and making support more available to those who need it most.
This Mindscent Candle (as a spin on Mindset) is extra special to Harrison, who sadly lost his uncle Gregg to suicide at only 23 years old.
Harrison and his family have seen and felt the complete picture of how families are affected by suicide and wants this Candle to raise awareness about mental health and suicide so that other families don’t go through what they have experienced.
Our Moments Mission
“We have a mission: first, to raise awareness about these fantastic charities, and second, to sell the 50 candles we have between us,
to raise as much money as possible to prevent others from loss as a result of young suicide and cardiac risk in the young.
100% of the profits will be shared across these charities.

Prevention of young suicide
We are raising awareness because we care
- Suicide is the main cause of death in young people under the age of 35 in the UK.
- Around three-quarters of them were boys or young men.
- Over 200 teenagers are lost to suicide every year.

CRY – Cardiac Risk in the Young
We are raising awareness because we care
- 80% of young sudden cardiac deaths occur with NO prior symptoms.
- Every week in the UK, 12 apparently fit and healthy young aged 35 and under die from undiagnosed cardiac conditions.
- 1 in 300 of the young people that CRY tests will be identified with a potentially life-threatening condition.

Two young men inspired the Heart and Minds Collection: Gregg and Aaron, whose lives ended too soon, both at the young age of 23.
Gregg mccue
On the 7th of July 2009, at the young age of 23, Gregg decided to take his own life without any reason why, leaving his family living their lives never to be the same since that day.
Gregg was the youngest of four brothers who were closer than you could ever imagine. He was adored by his parents and loved by many friends.
Since Gregg passed, everyone has had to deal with the grief and pain that no one should have to experience in their lives; if we had known about charities like PAPYRUS, I am sure that life would have been different for many than it is today.
Gregg showed no signs of mental health; He was funny, kind, fit and healthy. He didn’t smoke or take drugs, but he loved a bottle of beer now and again (who doesn’t).
To this day, no one knows why he chose to end his life or why he did not speak up about what, if anything, was on his mind.
This is why Harrison has created this Candle in memory of his uncle: to encourage people to sit back, slow down their minds, gather their thoughts, and know that it’s OK to speak up and ask for help because there are better days ahead than what you leave behind.
Harrison also shared, “It isn’t weak to ask for help; it’s like lighting a candle in the dark.” These are wise words from a young man.
aaron dixon
Aaron passed away in his bedroom 19 days before his 24th Birthday. Two months after losing Aaron, they were told the cause of death – ARVC – a genetic heart defect which had gone undetected until that fateful night.
Aaron was loved by everyone he met and always had a smile on his face. Aaron’s death has had a devastating effect on the family and his many friends.
Aaron grew into a very handsome, cheeky, fun-loving, active boy. He loved all sports and had many friends who continue to raise awareness in his memory.
A family’s life changed forever on the 4th of September 2011. Nothing prepares you for the loss of a child, but Deborah, Gary and Hollie have found the inner strength and resilience to honour his memory by pledging to save as many young lives as possible.
They raise funding to provide heart screenings, which they believe will prevent other families from experiencing the heartache they do every day.
