Is your home an oasis of peace?

Do you have a space or a place in your home that is your oasis of calm, somewhere that you can escape to, sit quietly and just breathe?

It could be a room in your home or a simple corner somewhere that exudes calm and peacefulness, wherever and whatever it is I think we all crave that quiet space that makes us feel safe and comforted.

So how can we create that feeling of peacefulness in our homes?

Follow our simple tips to make your home more peaceful.

Clear the clutter – It is common knowledge that clutter in your home produces physical and unconscious chaos, how many times have you wasted 20 minutes searching for your house keys amongst the chaos, 20 minutes of stress and upset that we just don’t need.  Take some time to tackle your messy wardrobe, ironing pile or mound of old post and you will immediately feel the tension leave the room.

Think of the place you love most – think about the place where you are happiest and how you can bring elements of that into your home.  How can you use colours and textures in your home to transport you to that happy place?

Build in some time for calm – life is hectic but it is important to stop and take a moment, put the kettle on and just take a break.

Get cosy – add a touch of luxury to a sofa or bed with a luxurious throw.  Wrap yourself in it’s luxury and feel at peace witht the world.

Bring the outside in – a great way to bring calm and peace into your home is introducing plants and greenery, this could be with large statement plants or by adding small touches of greenery around the home, on shelves and side tables.

Put down your phone – are you addicted to Facebook and Insta, do you find you lose hours of the day aimlessly scrolling social media or the internet?  Learn to put away your technology, leave the laptop in another room and pop the ipad and phone in a drawer.  Take it slow, there’s no need to go all out start with a few hours each day . . . who knows where it could lead.

Turn up the tunes – do you have a song that soothes you, something soft and gentle, allow the slower tempo to quiet your mind ease the stresses of the day.

Get better sleep – go back and check out our tips on getting a better nights sleep in our ‘Do you sleep well’ blog.

And of course . . . .

Make it smell great – There is nothing better than coming home after a long, stressful day and taking in a familiar, uplifting scent. See below our recommendations and inspiration for some of the rooms in your home.

Lounge

A refreshing and comfortable scent is perfect for the living room— something that you enjoy being around for long periods of time.

Try a subtle and familiar floral or herbaceous aroma like cotton, geranium, or rose. A scent that will allow you to sit back and relax.

RECOMMENDATION: Moments In The Meadow, Sophisticated Moments

Kitchen

Scent is the perfect way to tackle lingering food smells. Citrus scents are excellent for cutting through cooking odours, as well as the potential upside of refreshing and calming the cook. Bright and mouth- watering scents based on garden herbs or vegetables (think, rosemary) provide equal complement to a chef hard at work.

RECOMMENDATION: Energising Moments, Moments of Inspiration

Bedroom

The bedroom is a place of relaxation; on average we spend 1⁄3 of our lives asleep! Lavender is an ideal scent— prized for its ability to calm and clear the mind. Floral tones can also create an ambient feel. For romantic occasions, try something a little richer—creamy notes like sandalwood, or musky scents can help, ahem, keep the passion alive.

RECOMMENDATION: Moments of Inner Peace, Perfect Moments, Moments of Relaxation

And remember putting time and energy into creating a peaceful home will reward you with energy saved and stress relieved.
