The 23rd September marked the Autumnal Equinox for the Northern Hemisphere, when the sun crosses the celestial equator and heads south.  Did you know the word equinox comes from the Latin for ‘equal night’ and that’s exactly what happens just twice a year on the first day of Autumn and Spring, with the day and night both lasting 12 hours after this they draw apart, with nighttime increasing and daytime decreasing as we head towards winter.

Evenings are drawing in and there is a definite chill to the morning air.  There is a haze on the fields on the drive to work and the Autumn sun is lower in the sky.

But what does Autumn mean to you?  Maybe it’s time for you to dig out your hat and gloves for the early morning dog walk, or to make the most of the last of the warm afternoon sunshine before packing the garden furniture away.

As the trees start to change colour it’s almost as if its their final flourish before harsh, cold winter days arrive.  Who doesn’t love a walk in the park kicking the leaves once they finally drop from the trees. Or hunting for conkers on walks with the family.

Warm comforting foods find their way onto the menu as the days and nights get colder.  With warming stews and soups making an appearance, along with mugs of hot chocolate with marshmallows.  Or those hedgerow jewels, the blackberry made into a crumble with the autumn apple harvest, all served with warming custard…my mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Autumn also brings the opportunity to introduce new scents to your home, bringing in a warm and cosy ambience, with candles lit to set the mood for evenings snuggled on the sofa with a blanket.  Bringing the season alive to your senses with scents that complement it perfectly. Think warming scents such as black amber evoking feelings of comfort and happiness, pomegranate bringing alive feelings of nostalgia and joy.  Whether you prefer fruity and floral or warm and fanciful there is always a scent to complement your mood.
